My Bookshelf

An eclectic mix of some of the books on my shelves, both fiction and non-fiction, separated into categories.

BOOKS FOR COOKS

Jamie's 30 Minute Meals; Jamie Oliver, Michael Joseph
Everyone - but everyone - can spare half an hour a day to cook a wholesome, tasty meal from scratch.  If you really, truly can't ... then you need to make some adjustments to your life!  Food is what keeps us alive and healthy and we should feed our bodies the best we can manage; Jamie's 30-minute meals can help you to do that.  It's a sumptuous book, filled with gorgeously-photographed food and simple instructions.

BOOKS FOR GARDENERS

Joe's Allotment; Joe Swift, BBC Books
I really enjoyed Joe Swift's TV series showing his first year as an allotmenteer and, as I am an allotment "virgin" too, asked for this book for Christmas.  It's full of tips and pitfalls, garnered from Joe's own experiences, making it a very useful addition to the fruit & veg gardener's bookshelf.

Allotment Month by Month; Alan Buckingham, Dorling Kindersley
Unlike the one above, which I had requested, this was a surprise allotment book for Christmas last year; it was also a very welcome one.  Thankfully, it's a completely different format to the Joe Swift one and has a lot of different information for beginner allotment holders.  This one is clearly divided into months and what to do in your allotment throughout the year - invaluable!

BOOKS FOR WRITERS

The indispensable resource book for all writers (and artists) serious about getting their work published; the information contained within its pages is invaluable and changes each year to be bang up to date ... and yes, the 2012 imprint is already available!!
