Chicken, asparagus and salad

Another lovely chicken salad dish ... organic chicken breasts, pan-fried with Italian seasoning and asparagus, served with a huge salad, Moroccan cous-cous, coleslaw and a few boiled new potatoes. It was totally gorgeous and just looking at this photo makes me wish I could eat it all over again!

Hello and welcome to my blog about food, gardening, art, writing and life!

"Daily Bread" is actually a misnomer, because the healthier eating plan I'm aiming for involves reducing my intake of simple carbohydrates - refined wheat and sugar in particular.

My aim is simple - to improve my health and self-esteem by eating less in quantity, but a higher quality, of food. I intend to increase the amount of fruit and vegetables (particularly raw) that I consume, and decrease the amount of bread, biscuits and other wheat/sugar products.

I'm also going to change the balance of food on my plate, so that potatoes, pasta and rice (for example) take up far less room than vegetables and salads. I'm not a vegetarian, but I do enjoy a lot of meat-free meals and will also be cutting down my meat/poultry/fish portion sizes.

My allotment efforts will also feature highly on this blog, as I hope to provide a lot of nutritious food for our table from my own horticultural efforts. (2011 will be my first full year as an "allotmenteer", so I'm full of early-days enthusiasm!!)

Finally, I also hope to include some relevant pieces of writing and artwork ... if I can find the time, inclination and inspiration to pick up pen and pencil again!
